MLW Fury Road 2025 took place on September 27th, featuring numerous surprises. The pro wrestling magician once again appeared as Austin Aries returned to an MLW ring. We saw many matches in the opening round of the 2025 Opera Cup.
The opening match showcased CMLL trios action. Atlantis kick-started the rally with backbreakers all around. Hill landed a dive outside to clear the way for Atlantis to roll up Barboza for the win.
There might be a 2025 Opera Cup substitution in the works after Zandokan Jr. suffered an injury in CMLL later in the week.
He wants to face Don Gato in November.
Paul London took on Okumura in the first Opera Cup First Round match of the night. Okumura had momentum after a Michinoku driver. He rolled London into a crucifix pin. So London gouged the eyes to escape. London defeated Okumura with the cloverleaf submission.
In this storyline, Babyface Paul London is getting frustrated over and over with his recent results and how he has had to win. After the match, London explained that this might be his last run, so he has to make it count. He didn’t come to play nice. He came to win.
In the next Opera Cup First Round match, Volador Jr. used some tricks to get past Titan in a battle of the CMLL luchadores. Volador Jr. had been loosening Titan’s mask throughout the match. As you all know, if you take a luchador’s mask, it is against CMLL rules and is considered disgraceful. Titan surged down the stretch for a flurry of strikes and a flying double stomp. Titan lifted Volador Jr. into a spinning maneuver. However, Volador Jr. escaped and shoved Titan into the referee. Volador Jr. took advantage of that moment to pull Titan’s mask off and secure a roll-up to win as Titan covered his face.
Alexander Hammerstone cut a promo, making it clear that he is coming for the MLW World Heavyweight Championship. He stated that he is going to remind the world that he is the MLW alpha.
Mads Krule Kruggs took Mister Saint Laurent in a backstage attack.
Shotzi Blackheart handled her business against Alejandra Quintanilla. The underdog had momentum until Shotzi threw her off the turnbuckles. The Ballsy Badass capitalized with a flying senton to win.
Satoshi Kojima and Mr. Thomas were in a Lightning Match. Mr. Thomas removed the turnbuckle pad, but that tactic backfired. Kojima dodged a corner splash. While Mr. Thomas collided with the exposed steel. A Koji cutter wasn’t enough to finish the job, so Kojima ran the ropes for a powerful lariato. The win occurred with 5:29 remaining on the clock for the 10-minute sprint.
Austin Aries had a first-round Opera Cup matchup with KUSHIDA. Aries has always been a ball of controversy. Many fans were waiting to see what he could create. While many other fans were saying who? to try to figure out why their neighbors were excited. Aries had a very good strategic match with KUSHIDA. Towards the end of the match, KUSHIDA was setting up for a Hoverboard Lock on the turnbuckle. Aries escaped by gouging KUSHIDA’s eyes. Then Aries took advantage by executing a brainbuster.
Paul London and Austin Aries got into a backstage brawl.
Earlier in the show, the MLW World Heavyweight Champion Mads Krule Krugger got ahold of Mister Saint Laurent and attacked him. Bishop Dyer (aka Baron Corbin) and his tag team partner, Donovan Dijak, were furious about Contra getting their hands on their manager. They decided to dish out some payback instead of having the match. Krugger arrived for the match, then chaos erupted as he was attacked. Krugger fought to clear the ring of the Skyscrapers. As the fight continued backstage, Alexander Hammerstone appeared and attacked Krugger.
